As I said yesterday, I looked at the redemption offer & backed out of it yesterday as I still had a couple of Halo Plus and a few more smart switches & key pads to add on. I added them last night. Called tech support this morning, 02-02-19, was on hold approximately 18 minutes....lady said she would have to do a "ticket" & they would do a manual redemption for newly added devices. I never got a ticket number...supervisor told her they would do it now....took almost 40 minutes to do it...she comes back and says that supervisor said since the added devices totaled more than $300.00 that was the max they could do on a manual redemption. She asked was I satisfied with that as it was guaranteed now that I would get $300 manual & $430.00 for the ones that were already showing on online redemption. I gathered that "redeemable devices" is subject to change as per iris online redemption offer....I was still losing about $150 dollars since they weren't "manually" giving me full credit for everything I added last night. I guess I could have contested it, but I agreed to $430.00 + $300.00 and will now get two separate Visa gift cards...plus I get $170.00 for another few devices I have under a separate account which I had redeemed yesterday. I'm happy with 900.00 total as most of this stuff will work under Wink & ST--both of which I have...the Iris stuff was really not being used by me anymore & at one time I started to junk it all...glad I waited. The tech lady never put me on hold the whole 40+ minutes...I heard all her coughing, throat clearing, office talk about other employees & their happenings while she was waiting on supervisor "to look at my account & manually redeem" added devices...I did have to first to the online redemption & THEN supervisor approves manual redeem. Good luck to you guyz.... mojo2600

Lowe's, love it or hate it?

I don't hate Lowes or love them. For now, I am disgusted at them and do not plan to use them for home improvement need going forward. I've shopped nearly exclusively at our local Lowes. This is after years of frustrations with them and how they handled Iris over the years. In my opinion, I think the only reason they're even offering redemptions at all is because they're likely planning to claim this all as business losses. Call it a "conspiracy theory" but I could see them killing Iris off instead of selling it because selling would mean a profit that they'd have to claim. If it's a "failed business venture" they can use that to their tax advantage. I don't really think the redemption are just out of the kindness of their hearts. If they really cared about their customers and enthusiasts, I feel like Iris would have been handled much differently through time. Just my opinion and venting frustrations about Lowes.

What Platform Should I Migrate To

Can a ring section be setup as well? That looks like a good contender also for the security/safety side that Iris offered. Home automation was only part of what Iris controlled.

Arlo Pro 2 Cameras vs Iris Cameras

The problem with the cloud based cameras is they typically only record on motion and I know their motion sensing capability is not 100% accurate. My cameras record 24/7 so I’m guaranteed not to miss anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Arlo Pro 2 Cameras vs Iris Cameras

No, you would have to create a standalone surveillance system. I did this a few years ago using Blue Iris and have never regretted it. The video quality is so much better that it has gotten to the point that whenever something happens in my neighborhood the police stop by to see if I captured anything on my cameras.

    Iris is Officially Done

Yes, they will still work. I have mine connected to Blue Iris and they work regardless of being connected to a hub.

Arlo Pro 2 Cameras vs Iris Cameras

I only have the original Iris cameras to compare against, but those were not very good. I have the Arlo system, a total of 13 cameras including Pro, Pro 2, and Q. It's not a bad system but it's pricey. They are getting into smart object detection (people, person, animal) as well as package detection (recognizing the UPS guy). They just came out with a 4K system but I have no experience with that. If you're considering SmartThings, Arlo has a direct integration, including the ability to start/stop recording, turn the cameras on and off, plus use the cameras PIR and video motion detection features as motion sensors in SmartThings. I wrote the ArloPilot app which can be used to synchronize the SmartThings alarm system states to the Arlo system. When I left the Iris dumpster fire several years ago I made a decision to diversify my smart home tech to discreet, stand-alone components that can function without a hub, yet be integrated with one. I went with Arlo for cameras, Ring for the doorbells, Hue for lighting, Ecobee for the thermostats, and Harmony for my entertainment center. All of those function on their own, yet all of them can be integrated via SmartThings as well. I highly recommend that strategy as it reduces the footprint of impact of a hub failure or in this case, platform shutdown.

A post from the Iris Community manager

I feel terrible what the Iris team is also going through. I am incredibly bitter over how this has turned out. I do not blame the Iris team however. But I do blame corporate Lowes seeming to be concerned over profit over all else. It's been obvious for years, but we all wanted to keep believing in the system that these engineers were working so hard on. I have no doubts that the Iris team was crippled by Lowes Management, not by any shortcomings of their own. If they REALLY wanted to save Iris, they could have probably done so easily. I would have been willing to pay $25/month for the services we received, which would be comparable to competitors. They also had interested buyers but did not move on it. It's really like they wanted the system to fail so they could just wipe their hands clean of it, and move on leaving us all in the dust of their "failed experiment."

    Iris is Officially Done

I'm pretty worried about this too. Switched to ST from Iris a few years ago. Love the programmability, but got so fed up with the constant false alarms and complete non-delivery of features that I actually came back here today to see how Iris was faring... wonderful timing. Samsung does not appear to take ST seriously, or simply has no idea where to go with it. But I haven't found a system that really works well. ST could be so close if they'd just fix years old bugs (like presence malfunctions, which has gotten much worse) and add entry delay with a keypad, it'd be far more useful.

What Platform Should I Migrate To

Definitely needed if you want me and others to consider Vera. I didn't see any of my IRIS or works with IRIS (like GE Smart Switch) devices on your list. Also I have a lot of money invested in Arlo Pro cameras. Don't see any compatibility there. I will keep watching your Vera specific thread for updates.

Nice work however I don't understand the distinction between two check marks vs one check mark.

What Platform Should I Migrate To

I'm retired now but spent 30 years in local law enforcement. I'm not a fan of monitored services which is why I chose IRIS. All they do is call the police and if the agency I worked for is any example alarm calls are low priority because around 90% of them are false. It could be hours before an officer comes to check out your house depending on other workload. Having said that if I were to get a monitored system I would look for a low cost one that will integrate some if not all of my existing devices and call (as opposed to notify) my cellphone if the alarm goes off as IRIS does. Also motion sensors were and may still be notorious for triggering false alarms so the ability to be able to require two to trigger before the alarm is sounded is important. I have looked at SimpliSafe and my neighbor has and likes their system. However as far as I can tell it is a closed system. I can't integrate my Arlo cameras or any of my sensors or switches so I would have to run two systems if I wanted any home automation.

Just got off the phone with them. The supervisor was able to add the additional devices. 1/30/2019 was when they pulled the list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Iris is Officially Done

Hi All, Vera here with an update. Starting next week we're going to be offering 30% off any controller, as well as six different device bundles starting at $99. For Iris users only. More to come...

They can be used without Iris. Everything you need to know regarding the cameras is right here: And pairing all of your devices before doing the redemption will serve no purpose. The redemption's are being done based on a snapshot that was taken sometime earlier. Do the redemption and call support for further information.
