Low voltage lightning control with zones

Txs...was already planning on LED. I did do a search and may have seen that thread, will have to go back and find it. But thought a repost might bring up newly available parts or ideas. Out of curiosity, did you set up any motion sensors? I have seen motion sensing low voltage lights but I hate when the lights shutoff if you sit still a little. So I was thinking of getting std lights then setting up motion sensors that are only active after say 11pm that would be liked to the smart plugs to turn on a zone if someone approached the house.

    Is something going today 1/28?

System was stable all day yesterday and through the night. No getting awakened by the alarm arming. All devices were still online so I decided to turn the fan in and see if that has any effect. If everything is stable then I will reinstall that DVD drive. If I figure it out I will post what I found.

    Is something going today 1/28?

So last night I ended up pulling the new external DVD drive and turned off the cooling fans. I also plugged a gen 1 plug in between the hub and some of the more troublesome sensors. So far it has been solid with the only devices offline are ones I only use in the summer. Hope it stays like this. If so I am really glad I didn't start repairing everything. I guess the real test will be tonight, it was messing up more frequently after 7.

    Is something going today 1/28?

Wow...what a waste of time. I just spent what seemed like an eternity on the phone with tech support and things are no better. Their only answer is to remove the devices that are not connected and repair them. I don't believe this is a pairing issue since we haven't added, changed or moved an sensors for months and everything was super stable up until last weekend. Also don't believe it is a pairing issue since when I started talking to him only 1 of 16 door/windows switches were connected, after some time most came back and only 6 were offline. If the devices weren't paired they wouldn't have reconnected. Now after another reboot I only have 4 offline. Any other suggestions on troubleshooting? I don't want to bother with repairing, even though it is only a few devices right now since at one point since this weekend I think every device has been offline at some point. I did check my routers 2.4GHz channel and it is 1, so there shouldn't be interference there. Also for giggles I disconnected the DVD drive and shut off the fan. That made no change. While the fan is still mounted; it is only between the hub and one device that is offline. The others are clear with no new obstructions. If this doesn't stabilize I will likely switch to ST. I know it has some issues too but I have a few buddies running it and they are way happier than they were with Wink or Iris. I just have to have this alarm system working, there has been a rash of cars getting broken into and some burglaries. Ugh...in the time it took me to write this all 16 door/window sensors are back online. WTF? I really wish the good web portal was working so I could check signal strength and battery levels. wondering if some batteries are getting low so range is reduced slightly. Not sure that makes sense since they come and go in waves. I don't know...I am tired and frustrated.

cables are all good but I think something might be up with the hub. Last night just after 7 it started to do the same BS with the keyfob coming and going. When I checked a bunch of devices had just dropped off. By morning most of this was gone. But this seems to happen at the same time of day...might be a coincidence but it is weird.

I don't know what to say. As of right now only 4 devices are offline, all gen1 window switches. 2 of the ones offline are in a bank of 4 so I don't think it is range or interference. But since this started after adding that cooling fan and DVD drive I will try yanking that this weekend to see if things stabilize. I did notice this morning the app forced me to sign in again which I thought was strange. Very weird...this system has been stable for about a year now. Sucks that I can't trust it right now.

Did you do this on all devices or just your primary interface?

    Is something going today 1/28?

I am about to pull the plug on this thing. Less than half of my devices are connected tonight. And again the alarm system armed saying my wife left but the keys are still here. Ironically the key fob is one of the few devices that shows as being connected. Getting very fed up, this is actually the worst stability I have seen. Far worse than the gen 2 fiasco.

I guess I spoke to soon. I was sitting by the hub and all of a sudden the alarm is arming. So I check history and it says the key fob departed even though no one left. Then it ran the I'm home scene. I checked the device list and about a half dozen devices were off line. WTF? If this keeps up I may just bite the bullet and switch to ST. I am envious of my buddies setup. So many more options than we have.

No router changes. I added an external DVD drive for my laptop since it is mounted in a way that doesn't allow me to load discs. I also added a couple of fans to keep the temps down. So far things have smoothed out...just hoping this was isolated.

    Is something going today 1/28?

Well I thought I got everything back to normal then my wife told me the alarm was all wonky when she came home. After opening the door the keypad started to beep and she pressed the home button on the fob to disarm the system. The light turned on like it should but the keypad kept beeping. I can see she pressed the fob two more times but it kept beeping. So when went to the pad and noticed it said off yet it was beeping. After entering the code the beeping stopped. Not sure what the hell is going on but I haven't seen instability like this for a long time. I hope it fixes itself but I am not holding my breath.

    GE Devices Having Trouble

Was just having this issue today. I think my issue stems from rearranging my entertainment center and having some sort of interference. So I pulled it out but no luck. Tried several zwave rebuilds but still nothing. So I figured I would just give it a day to sort out. Then I went to turn one of the offending lights on and instantly my phone went off. Surprised I walked to all the other lights and sure enough cycling each light brought it back on the network. So if this happens give each switch a cycle before you impair and repair.
  13. A buddy of mine that is running ST is going to pick up one of these and I was wondering if anyone has tried one of these to see if they work on Iris. https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/products/ecolink-z-wave-plus-firefighter-ff-zwave5-smoke-and-co-audio-detector

    Local Processing Is Here

Just saw that myself. How did that make sense to them? All of my sensors are Leaksmart so they can't even say they are only supporting local processing for Iris stuff only. Also noticed that the batteries I replaced in two of my sensors a week ago still haven't updated their status. So flaky.

    Iris vs SmartThings

For me the biggest issue with Iris is the closed platform. My buddy has ST and constantly rubs it in how he can add so many different devices and set up better/easier rules.

    Local Processing Is Here

Same question here on water alarms and control. I hope it is included.
  17. Couldn't you use Smoke detected turn toaster off? You can ties to water alarm and have plug to off or on.

Iris Q3 Reset Overview on YouTube

I went into a different Lowes than usual and they had a new display for a bunch of tech goods up front between customer service and self check out. The iris system and devices were mixed in with Ring, Google etc. But the area it was given was quite small and was in the back corner, not front and center.

Smart plug and relay control questions

I tend to agree but the only leak this would help with is the pressure tank, all the other points are covered by separate sensors. Those other spots are more likely to be a problem so if I can make this happen for a third of the cost why not.
  20. So a while back I installed a Leaksmart shutoff valve and it has saved my butt twice so far. But the biggest issue is this had to be installed after my well pressure tank. So if my pressure tank fails the water to the house will be shutoff but the well pump will keep running to get the system up to pressure and flood the house. So now I want to use a smart plug and relay to to control the well pump but I want to maintain the local switch. So my questions are: Should I install the relay before or after the local switch or does it not matter? I was going to use the rule to turn the smart outlet off when alarm alerts and have it stay off. But is alert for alarm the same as water alarm or just for intrusion? If the above works, when you clear the house alarm and open the shutoff is there a way to automate turning the well pump back on? I was going to set a schedule for the outlet so that it is always on but if there is a power failure will it remain in last state or get turned back on when power is restored? Any other recommendations?

Smart plug and relay control questions

Sorry I should have mentioned the pump isn't 120v, it is 230v. As far as I know the only device that does two phases is the GE outdoor box which some have used for pools here. I thought about using one but $170 is tough to swallow for something that might not ever get actuated. I thought the relay and smart plug were more economical and accomplished the same thing. I will take a look at the smoke detector, shutoff toaster. Good idea on the scene...that will ensure it doesn't get accidentally enabled.

If this and this then that?

So it looks like this is working for anyone else looking to do something similar.
  23. Wondering if there is anyway to do this. Basically I would like to have holiday lights come on only when we are home (key fob) and between certain times of the day. From what I can see I can do either of those but not both...is that right?

Iris Q3 Reset Overview on YouTube

Interesting that they mention Gen 1 products being more affordable...the displays I have seen still have them at basically the same price as the Gen 2.

    New V1 stock?

Build quality is definitely better but I can't justify spending that much at this point on devices I can't take to another platform if Iris takes a dump.
