    Slow app update lately?

I am wondering if it has something to do with local processing. There was a thread about someone noting the system was using much less bandwidth, I wonder if the hub is handling these activities and only posting changes at set intervals if they happen so the updates are a bit slow.

    Slow app update lately?

I recently added several new door/window switches (Gen 1) but had a lot of trouble getting them to pair. Each one took several minutes even sitting next to the hub. Some even timed out and I had to try again. Then after they were all paired I am noticing very slow response in the app to updates in state. Often 20 or more seconds to more than a minute at times. Has anyone else seen this lately? I don't recall see this in the past. I remember being able to pair and basically see the state change instantly in the app. Did they change the refresh timing or something?

    Batteries Depleting Rapidly

Maybe I shouldn't say anything but my battery levels appear to be OK but for some reason my keypad no longer beeps when you walk in and the system is armed. It does beep when it arms though. Very frustrating when you come in the house late and people are sleeping and the alarm goes off because you didn't hear the warning.
  4. So my buddy that runs ST picked up a couple of Watercop auto-shutoff valves and suggested I give one a shot to see if it works with Iris. Well it pairs right away but comes up as an uncertified device. It is kind of sad there are all these other devices out there that we can't use. Right now everything on Iris seems to be working well for me but I really wish they would open up the platform. This is probably the sixth device I have tried that doesn't work on Iris but works on ST. I think ultimately this closed mentality is going to be its demise. It would be one thing if they were coming out with new devices of their own, but really nothing is happening. It makes me want to jump ship before I have to, anyone else?

Don't Throw Away Your Old Devices

There are plenty of us with first gen Alert Me made devices. All of my window/door switches are and a few of my motion sensors are. I have been contemplating making a jump to ST but none of those devices are currently working on that platform. I can't speak for everyone; but I think if you could get first gen devices to work and work out a way for the system to call you for an alarm you will gain a lot of interest. My buddy is on ST and I get sad whenever he buys a new device that will likely never work on Iris. If you could open that up I would certainly be interested. But the question is what is in it for you? Are you looking to do a subscription service? Do we purchase the software for the hub?

    False alarms with motion sensors

Not sure about the OP but only one of mine is low. From the portal they are reporting 91, 83, 70 and 47%. Every single one was dropping off.

    Well it was fun

Sounds like what my buddy did. Got some cheap fire tabs, a custom mount for the wall with hidden cable.

    False alarms with motion sensors

Mine motion sensors were dropping off constantly but no false alarms. This is for gen 1 and a Bosch sensor. Don't know if it is connected but my hub lost connection for a minute last night with no loss of power or internet. Hope I am not about to lose all stability again.
  9. That is pretty bad. Mine just went off a week ago when my brine tank over flowed. Call was instantaneous.

    For those with kids

Currently my home alarm system is through Iris and my fire alarm system is hardwired. Recently we had a water leak and my son woke up and thought someone was breaking in so he was hiding. We have done fire drills and he knows the difference between the alarms but that is when he is fully awake. I am not sure if he wakes up he is fully aware and alert enough to tell the difference. So I am wondering if anyone has done something to better differentiate the alarms. I was thinking of adding a smart outlet in his room and have the light flash when it is a house alarm and do nothing for fire. This way there would be a visual indication as well. Any other thoughts or suggestions? Is it possible to strobe a light on alarm or can you only enable a light?

Txs...i will have to search for that bulb. Pricey but for safety may be worth it if I can't find another solution.

    UPS backup referal

I have had good luck with apc units. I am not sure how much power the hub and modem use but I would imagine an average size unit would keep you up for a while. How long were you hoping to be backed up?

    Well it was fun

I have seriously thought about doing this myself, especially when my system went to crap a few weeks back. But what always has me giving the system the benefit of the doubt is the multitude of Gen 1 devices I have. So long as Iris works I just can't justify buying several hundred worth of just door/window sensors to get basic alarm functionality back. But I do know a few people that are on ST and are super happy, one has a highly customized system which is really nice. The only caution I have is to really look at reviews for devices. He has purchased a ton of things that say they are ST compatible but are just garbage. Random alarms, drops etc.

    Contact sensors falling off

I think they must be doing something or rolling something out. Mine started with zwave devices dropping off. Once I got that back zigbee stuff was constantly dropping off. I think it was ok most of the day but between 6-9pm it would constantly think my wife (keyfob) was coming and going so alarm was arming/disarming and lights were going on and off. They wanted me to repair all the affected devices but that would have been every thing. Most of my devices are gen 1 but I saw the same behavior on gen 2 devices and things like leaksmart sensors so mine wasn't isolated. Hope yours settles out soon...it is a real PITA when it gets glitchy. Reminded me of the premature switch to gen 2.

    Contact sensors falling off

I had most of my devices drop off a couple weeks ago. Still not sure what caused it but glad it has been stable again.

    Cover Magnet Issue

Good customer service. Will remember that if/when I decide to automate vents. Always like to support companies that stand behind their products and provide a good service. Unfortunately that isn't that common anymore.
  17. Today I thought some of my devices dropped off the network after moving some things around in my entertainment center. I tried all sorts of fixes to get the zwave devices back but what finally worked was cycling each switch. I checked my device list and all the devices were connected. Then about 30 minutes later a bunch of zigbee devices went offline. Again I can't get them back and opening and closing doors and windows did nothing. But just now I saw the history said my wife just came home but the fob has been here all day. It also has a bunch of other nonsense being listed. Anyone else seeing this?

    Is something going today 1/28?

Well, it has been about a week since I removed the DVD drive but have had the fan running in that time with no dropped devices. I was going to reconnect the drive, but I so rarely use it I decided against it. If for some reason it is causing interference I don't want to deal with the instability for a day or so while it tries to recover. So while not conclusive...if anyone is having some funky connection issues look to see if you have an external DVD drive nearby.

Iris update causes the Gillion's portal to fail

Weird...i had issues with hangouts this afternoon but initially thought it was something going on with my POS machine at work. I will try to remember Monday to investigate more.

Sweet txs! Got this working again, just in time to start messing with some new rules and stuff.

Appears that iris has no presence at CES again

@Smitho I agree with your assessment. I just wish they would open up the platform. I fear if they don't do it soon they will miss the opportunity to have the super users make it better by adding custom device handlers so new/more devices could be used. The longer they wait the more likely those people are going to jump ship. I am really considering a switch to ST for this reason. My friends who have it can use just about and device (minus Iris gen 1) and they can do really slick interfaces. My one buddy is using some cheap fire tablets with action tiles to control everything. Everything is integrated even various IP cams.
  22. I have used a V1 motion sensor outside with no cover but I did caulk it up. But yeah I agree an official outdoor unit would be nice.

    Is something going today 1/28?

Didn't hook up the DVD yet but so far no dropped devices with the fan on. Only oddity was the keypad didn't beep when the alarm was about to go off but did beep later that night when it armed.

Low voltage lightning control with zones

@scunny...you mention you have a smart plug on the input of the transformer then three plugs to relays. So your transformer doesn't have built in controls? Reason I ask was my initial plan was to get a few smaller transformers, one for each zone and have those plugged into a smart plug for control through Iris. But what I am finding is most transformers have built in controls that don't seem to allow control in this way. Searching around I find several posts on various forums saying they needed old school transformers that had the mechanical dials and pulled the switches so it was always on. A few manuals I have downloaded don't seem to allow this. I can do the relays on the output but I was hoping to keep it as simple as possible.
  25. My house has limited outdoor lighting and between a few break ins and now that my little guy is more likely to be out at dark I really want to add some lighting. But I would like to have zones, be smart and preferably integrate with Iris and be platform agnostic. Due to my recent instability I really want to make sure anything I do can move to ST without a total gut job. I have found transformers with app control But I don't think any of these integrate with Iris. So one option I thought of was to have a transformer for each zone and have it plugged into a smart plug for iris to control. Seems like that would work but having several transformers might be bulky but on the flip side I could spread them around and potentially shorten wire runs and make network stronger by spreading repeaters. The other option was to have one large transformer then each zone would be wired to a relay with 120v input from a smart plug. My main concern with this setup is potential for fire. While it is exceptionally low and I would mount all this in an enclosure, if a fire happens I could be left without coverage. So has anyone done something similar? Am I missing any other options?
