  1. I ran into the same problem when trying to control a 1.5 hp lake pump with a z wave switch. I saw the device mentioned above but decided on these components instead that cost much less, and if one component breaks it can be individually replaced. K-Rain 1522 Pump Start Relay with 3 HP at 110-volt/220-volt 24-volt Coil MG ELECTRONICS MGT2420 TRANSFORMER,24VAC 20VA UL APPROVED GE Z-Wave Wireless Smart Lighting Control Smart Toggle Switch, On/Off, In-Wall, White, Works with Amazon Alexa, 12727 The 24vac transformer that pulls the relay is on a z-wave switch. It also gives me the ability to switch to a smart sprinkler controller at any time. This also give you the ability to have a long distance between the z wave switch and the relay with just a 15a 110v line between them on the switch. I think this may help with some of the problems above You can also wire this to the 24vac transformer to provide an indicator light. AC/DC 24V LED Power Indicator Pilot Signal Lamp 22mm Yellow Light I have everything well protected from the rain too. If you don't you may want to choose different components. Of course everyone is not comfortable with wiring stuff themselves. Do so at your own risk and only if you know what you are doing.
