I like this suggestion and I am guessing that the reason you suggest it is that if the fan continues to run it will pump smoke and fumes throughout the building. Shutting the HVAC down will stop that from happening.

 

No one has posted here if this is being worked on or dismissed.

 

Can anyone update us on XChief's request?

Nowadays CO detectors are used in hotels, apartments, condos and houses to sense low CO concentrations over a long period of time as well as high concentrations over a short period of time. I agree with your rule XChief but different thermostats have different actions so its better you get professional help about CO detectors.
